Florian Loeffl received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2008. For Bionicon AG, he led international mountain bike-suspension, -frame and pedelec development projects. In 2012 he joined NCTE AG as project manager in customized contact free torque sensor development for agriculture and motorsport customers. From 2014 he works at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics, as a research scientist. Since 2017, he is head of the system design group. His current research interest includes legged locomotion, physically damped elastic actuators and design of elastic robots.
